Catherine holds an honours degree in archaeology from LaTrobe University (1999) and is a current PhD candidate preparing a thesis on excavations at Pentridge prison in Coburg.
Catherine has been employed for more than 17 years as a professional archaeologist in Australia, predominantly in Victoria but also in Sydney and at the Port Arthur Historic site in Tasmania. She has worked mostly in private industry but has also held a contract position as a Heritage Officer at Aboriginal Victoria in 2016. She specialises in historic investigations but also has extensive experience managing indigenous projects in Victoria.
Catherine is proficient in project management and consultation has successfully directed projects for private industry, local council and State Government including urban redevelopments and major infrastructure initiatives. She has completed many successful projects including Casselden Place in Melbourne, Pentridge Prison Burial Ground, Queenscliff Fisherman’s Pier and M80 road upgrade works.
Recent projects she has been involved in include 271 Spring Street, Melbourne, 58 A’Beckett Street Melbourne, Hoffman Brickworks in Brunswick, Old Melbourne Goal for the National Trust Australia (Victoria) and Thomas’s Flour Mill in Mernda.
Catherine was a sessional archaeology tutor at LaTrobe University in 2014 and 2015 and has an ongoing involvement with Sovereign Hill and their field project at Narmbool. Catherine collaborates with various industry professionals and is a member of two Heritage Council (Victoria) Advisory Committees for Archaeology and Maritime Infrastructure and has held these positions since 2009. She is also on the committee for Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology.
